Completely renovated inside and out, The Ferry House, as it is called on the National Registry of Historic Places, was built in 1872 by Edward Payson Ferry. This Proud Victorian is of primarily wood construction and is in the Italianate style. E.P. Ferry, son of the Rev. William Ferry (one of Grand Haven's founders), was a local lumberman and banker. The Ferry House, is located in the heart of Grand Haven, Michigan, and is a short walk from unique shops and restaurants, marinas, waterfront stadium, and two-and-one-half-mile-long shoreline Boardwalk. The downtown area is the site of many community celebrations and attractions, including art shows, a car show, and nightly performances of the world's largest musical fountain. The Adams family purchased the home in 1982, and have lovingly restored the home inside and out.
The home features 11' and 12' ceilings, hardwood flooring, impressive woodwork, restored antique gas (converted) and electric light fixtures, plaster ceiling medallions and cornice moldings. The main level contains a large living room and formal dining room with bay window, 2 gas log fireplaces, as well as a family room, guest bedroom and a library on the main level. A gorgeous curved walnut stairway leads to the upper level, which features a large master suite, two bathrooms, laundry, and two additional bedrooms.
The Ferry House Apartment is located at the rear of the upper level in the original servant's quarters. It features an additional bedroom, bath, living room and a fully furnished kitchen and is also accessed by a private stairway to the back yard. This delightful space is currently offered as a weekly rental, but could be used a private guest quarters or for the in-laws.
The entire grounds are meticulously landscaped, with a rear courtyard that features a fountain, water gardens, flower gardens and a large screened porch for entertaining.
Many of the impressive antique furnishings have been carefully chosen for the Ferry House, and will remain with the home as part of the purchase. Also included are all appliances and a central vacuum system.
The Adams will entertain all viable offers on this home, and have the home listed at $499,900.00 with no realtor fees.
